ingredients:
1 kg fish
1/2 tsp salt
100 gms mustard oil or vegetable oil
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp red chilli powder
salt as per your taste
4 whole red chillies dried
1 large onion peeled, chopped
3 whole green chillies

v Cut the fish in small pieces (about 4cm).
v the cumin, ginger, 1 tsp turmeric powder , chilli powder and 1/2 tsp of salt in a small bowl. Add 3 tbsp of water.
v Rub the fish well with the 1/2 tsp of turmeric and 1/2 tsp of salt and set aside for 10-15 minutes.
v Heat the oil. If you are using mustard oil, let it get smoky hot.
v Now put in the fish pieces and fry up to brown lightly on all sides.
v Gently lift the fish out of the oil and put it on a plate.
v Now put sliced onion in the oil.
v A few seconds later, put the red chillies.
v Stir and fry the onion, lowering the heat. Add the spice paste. Stir and fry it for about 2 minutes add 1cup of water
v Now put in the fish in a single layer. Lay the green chillies over the fish.
v Boil it with heat for 2 minutes
v turn the heat to low and cook the fish for 10-15 minutes or until it is just done.
v Serve machher jhol.
